Kinematics , turbulence and evolution of planetary nebulae ⋆
This paper discusses the location of a sample of planetary nebulae on the HR diagram. We determine the internal velocity fields of 14 planetary nebulae from high-resolution echelle spectroscopy, with the help of photoionization models. The mass averaged velocity is shown to be a robust, simple parameter describing the outflow. The expansion velocity and radius are used to define the dynamical a...
متن کاملMorphology and Evolution of Galactic and Magellanic Cloud Planetary Nebulae
Planetary nebulae (PNe) exist in a range of different morphologies, from very simple and symmetric round shells, to elliptical, bipolar, and even quadrupolar shapes. They present extremely complex ensembles of filaments, knots, ansae, and shell multiplicity. It is then overwhelmingly complicated to derive reasonable evolutionary paths to justify the observed shapes of PNe. The confrontation bet...
متن کاملDiscovery , Photometry , and Kinematics of Planetary Nebulae In
Using an [O iii] λ5007 on-band/off-band filter technique, we identify 109 planetary nebulae (PNe) candidates in the edge-on spiral galaxy M 82, using the FOCAS instrument at the 8.2m Subaru Telescope. The use of ancillary high-resolution Hubble Space Telescope ACS Hα imaging aided in confirming these candidates, helping to discriminate PNe from contaminants such as supernova remnants (SNRs) and...
متن کاملRadial velocities of planetary nebulae towards the Galactic bulge
Accurate radial velocities for a sample of 71 planetary nebulae, mostly located in the direction of the Galactic Centre, are presented. Most of the nebulae discussed in this paper are likely members of the Galactic bulge, based on their radial velocity, longitude and derived distance. The data give a large improvement over existing catalogues, doubling the sample of bulge planetary nebulae with...
متن کاملThe Galactic Bulge: the Stellar and Planetary Nebulae Populations
We compare abundances patterns in the Bulge for elements observed in stars and in planetary nebulae. Some α elements, like Mg and Ti, are overabundant in respect to Fe, and others are not, like He, O, Si, S, Ar, Ca. The first ones favor a quick evolution of the Galactic Bulge, and the seconds a much slower one.
